Speech on World Population Day 11 July 2017

Have you ever felt stressed and went somewhere in search of the peace? The answer might be yes.  We always have some or the other form of pressure. We look for some silent place nearby, the sea hearing the splashing waves, hillside looking at the beautiful environment. Nature always makes us feel connected. Connected with bees, birds, insects, trees every living being out there. What if you find one day this is extinct and the only thing is you see humans everywhere. That day is not far.

“It’s easy to add but difficult to maintain”

Adding anything is very easy but to take care of that thing in large number is very difficult. Same goes for the population. The world used to be the land full of greenery, beautiful scenic views but it has now fully changed to properties. As the population increased, the man needs also started growing, the need for space, need for resources like food and water crossed the limits. The growing industrializationurbanization, and Deforestation started taking place causing harm to the flora and the faunas of nature and thus causing direct effects on the environment like Air Pollution, Water Pollution, unemployment also increased.etc.

To create awareness about the rising population around the world, United Nations came up with the day called as “World Population Day” on 11th of  July 1989. This day is celebrated around the world on 11th July. Today the global population estimated is up to 7.2 billion and growing. The main agenda of this day is to make people aware of the growing population on this day and the ill effects of the overpopulation, and creating awareness about the family planning and learn about the birth control methods.

There are various causes for the rising population around the world. Let’s see them one by one. The first one is Lack of Adult Education. Education plays an important role in human life. One of the primary purposes of growing population is the lack of sex education. Lack of sex education keeps people ignorant about the negative effects of the overpopulation. The next one is the lack of Family-Planning. The person with lack of knowledge about the family planning have multiple kids and thus contributing to the growth of population.

Poor Access to Contraceptives is one of the reasons why people in rural areas around the world cannot access the contraceptives. The huge Gap between the Death Rate and the Birth Rate is one of the major causes behind the overpopulation. The man is an intelligent animal he has advanced so much in the field of science and technology; that there are so many medicines available, and thus the death rate has gone down, and the birth rate increased exponentially. The Advancement in Health and Medical Field: The medical field has seen huge advancement from last few decades. There are cures available for many of the major diseases, hence the death rate has lowered exponentially causing a huge boom in the population.

When a country has its population growing beyond its optimum level, then it becomes a serious problem. The rapidly growing population around the world is causing problems like Lack of Facilities: The rising population causes the scarcity of facilities like health and medical, hygiene, food and many other. People cannot get the proper facilities provided by the government. Poverty: Due to unemployment people cannot earn their living and hence are not able to satisfy their basic needs. Poverty is one of the major problem caused by Population explosion around the world.

Unemployment: Rising population is causing the huge unemployment across the world. There are not enough job opportunities available for this kind of huge population hence people are not able to work and earn their living. Overcrowding: There is not enough land to accommodate this huge amount of people. Cities are getting crowded. The transportation in cities can be seen flooded with the people. It also creates pressure on the housing. There are not enough residential places available in the urban areas to accommodate a huge number of people. So it gives birth to the problem of slums.

Environmental Problems: With this huge amount of people living in a small region, it definitely affects the environment around it. Jungles are cut down to make buildings, roads. Water, soil, air is becoming polluted. The natural habitats of wild animals are gone.

To tackle all this situation the United Nations came up with the day called as “World Population Day” on 11th of  July 1989. Today the global population estimated is up to 7.2 billion and growing. The main agenda of this day was to make people aware of the growing population on this day. Make people educated about the ill effects of the overpopulation, make family planning and learn about the birth control methods.

Imparting the knowledge of sex education, teen pregnancy, and child marriage, among the masses in the early age will help to make them able to understand and know their responsibilities. Making people aware of the population on various media channels like Radio or Television will help to create awareness.

The population is one of the serious concerns of the world. It is an obstacle to the growth of the country and hence it should be controlled. Do it before you run out of time! On this World Population Day let’s take a pledge to do whatever you can to help our country to maintain the population and to use the population as our strength.

Thank You !!
