What’s the Southernmost Point of India? Any Guesses?, It’s not Kanyakumari

Kanyakumari or Cape Comorin is southernmost point of mainland India but the farthest in south point is called “Indira Point“.

Indira Point is a village in Nicobar district of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It used to call Pygmalion Point or Parsons Point. It is named as Indira point in honor when former prime minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi visited the place in 1984.

It is actually 35 metres high Lighthouse, which is inside the ocean now. Here is the picture of the lighthouse. A little bit back from lighthouse on the land there was statue bust of Indira Gandhi which was washed in 2004 tsunami.

In 2004 tsunami a lot of resident of the island went missing including some researchers. As per 2011 census presently there are only 27 men live on the island. Due to its isolation and after effects of the tsunami it is vastly inhabitable.
