Here we are again, searching for new year resolution ideas to follow and quotes to get inspired. New year resolution is becoming a worldwide modern-day tradition and at the same time is becoming a butt of a joke too. Most of the time we tend take new year resolution for sake of it or because it is becoming a fad. Within 15 days or less, we will start making fun of it and say something like “New year resolutions are made to be broken“. This is not a good thing at all. Why to spends time on something which doesn’t make any difference in our life. It’s a total waste of time and energy.
On another hand, if someone is serious about a new year resolution then he/she will not wait for new year’s day itself. Every new day brings an opportunity to do something new, chance to start over. Then why to wait for a new year’s eve? Is it making sense?
Let’s say either it’s the first day of the year or just any other day we chose the resolution. Still, we make a mistake of having a resolution which is way beyond our willpower. The most overused and cliche resolutions are hitting the gym and going on diet to lose weight. There will be very few people who will stick to it because it’s not easy. It requires discipline, patience, and perseverance.
You wanna have a resolution, it’s good. But instead of making a big resolution, slice it down into smaller tasks. Instead of promising yourself to hit gym 5 days a week, start taking stairs, drink plenty of water, avoid junk food and aerated drinks whenever and wherever possible. If you change your habits and pattern suddenly then you will get strong cravings within few days. So, take it one day at a time. What do you think?
Here is a list of such small steps or resolutions you can have on new year’s eve or any other beautiful day out of remaining 364 days.
Take a Digital Break
Song – What a Wonderful World – George Douglas
Before anything else, we need to take out our head and brain from that f**king phone. No one is saying that we should totally abolish it, that is not possible in today’s time. But we should take a break from the phone and experience the real world; touch it, feel it, smell it.
Quote- “It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles” – Buddha
It’s not about yoga class or something. Start meditating for just 10 minutes a day. Keep all those fantasies, worries, offers, discounts, product launches, jealousy out of the head for just 10 minutes. Over the time, you will find yourself calmer and poised. If you increase time and quality of meditation you will find tranquility and serenity. If you are able to upgrade to Yoga Asanas (poses) then there is nothing like that.
Quote – “A picture is worth of thousand words but a smile is worth of million.”
It is not an exaggeration. A smile can solve big problems, try it.
Stop Blaming Others
Quote – “You can get discouraged many times, but you are not a failure until you begin to blame somebody else and stop trying.” – John Burroughs
It is easy to blame others and get away with situations. But that will not solve the problem rather they will pile up and come back in other shape and form. Deal with it right away. Don’t blame partner, boss, migrants, economy and even God.
Read, Observe, Think
Quote – “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one.” – George R.R. Martin, A Dance with Dragons
Well; reading, that sounds boring, isn’t it? But if you wanna stay up to date and relevant you gotta read. There is a plethora of knowledge written in books, blogs, and articles. Author extract their whole life in just 300 or some pages, isn’t it a great opportunity to learn from them in a week or a month. Do not go for binge reading, rather read 15 to 20 minutes a day. It can be anything a newspaper, blog post or a story from the magazine. Try to read positive stuff.
Technology made it much easier for us. We can watch inspiring, videos, documentaries, self-help guides etc. Again focus on positive and constructive content.
Observe people, birds, nature and yourself too. Find the 10 minutes and think about what you read, watched or observed.
Excercise for 15 minutes a Day
Quote – “Change isn’t easy, it takes time”- Caroline Kennedy
Well, you are not going to lose those love handles and muffin tops by exercising daily for 15 minutes. But over the time it will set a pattern, a habit. Your body will ask for it. Over the months slowly increase time and intensity. Then you are ready to hit the gym.
Needs Vs Wants
We all know the difference, there is no need to write the definitions here. But that’s exactly the problem is. Though we know the difference, we tend to get occupied in fulfilling wants and ignore the needs. We run behind the things we don’t have and ignore the things that we have.
We get food, we have shelter, we have internet connection too but still, we are sad and down. It doesn’t mean we should not grow and enjoy the pleasures world offers. Appreciate what you got, be happy about it and then stride forward.
Be Happy Every Day
Quote – “Happiness is journey, not a destination” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
We think that we will be happy when we will get a bigger paycheck or buy a mansion. We spend whole life in a rat race to achieve that, by the time we get that mansion or sports car we are not in the position to enjoy it. The same rule applies to all aspects of life.
Quote – Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated. – Confucius
It is not difficult to be happy every day. Yes, there are problems, situations; we got to deal with ’em. Problems are part and parcel of life, those are never going to end, it doesn’t matter how much money you have. Little things can bring happiness, focus on those.
Invest in Knowledge
Quote -“An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.” – Benjamin Franklin
Knowledge is the next currency. Today whole world revolves around data, information, intelligence. Rather than wasting money on fancy stuff, invest it in acquiring knowledge.
Quote – “There is nothing impossible in this world, all that matters is how badly you want it” – Sunil Chavan [ that’s me 🙂 ]
I personally believe that there is nothing impossible, it is totally up to us. I dream big and try all possible ways to achieve it.
Quote – “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss you will land among the stars.” – Brian Littrell
These resolution ideas can be adopted by anyone. Students, employees, business people, homemakers, anyone can find it relevant.
