Essay on How I Spent My Summer Vacation, Holiday, Break – Trip to Hill station
Mercury soars in summers in India and here in Mumbai (your city), it’s not a good experience at all. Summer vacation is the off time from school and I didn’t want to spend it on studies or by wasting it in front of a video console. Next year, I will be busy again in grueling academic work, assignments, projects, exams and what not. I wanted to cut my self from all these so that when I come back fresh and energetic.
So, I convinced a few of my friends to plan north India trip. 7 out of 10 were ready, now next big thing was choosing the destination, getting parents on board and collecting sufficient funds. After a lot of internet research, we close off Manali for our summer vacation. We planned a 7 days trip, we kept the plan open to visit all possible nearby destination in Himachal Pradesh. Rohtang Pass, Solang Valley, Bhrigu Lake, Himalayan National Park, Tibetian Montesary were on the plan.
Now the hardest part, convincing parents for the only-friends trip. There were 3 girls in our group too, so convincing their parents were the most difficult part. Their worries were genuine too, Himachal is not a great place for women safety; we know that from the news. Our original plan was to go on own but to convince parents and to respect their genuine worries we settled to go to Himachal with a tour company.
Couple of us went to XYZ tours to plan the trip and after 45 minutes of the meeting, we had a deal. Thank god we did it because it saved our money, they assured security arrangements and the most important part they agreed to make us part of another same age group. That was perfect.
We flew to Delhi from Mumbai in the morning, the same day we took a Volvo bus to Manali. By night we reached Manali, we took rest that night as we wanted to start fresh on the next morning. The first destination was Rohtang Pass, I watched a documentary on Rohtang Pass on discovery Channel earlier, so I was aware that though it is one of the best attraction there. It is a dangerous road with a lot of snow filled twists and turns. As we reach closer to it, its beauty overtook the fear, we were simply awestruck by the beauty of it. That was the first time I experienced snow, that experience was out of the world.
The first thing we did was obvious, we threw snowballs at each other; it was super fun. We also built a snowman, I wish I had carrot with me for snowman’s nose. Took a lot of group selfies, videos with it. Then we went for skiing. So far I saw it in movies and over YouTube only. Skiing is very tough, I was not able to even stand properly on those skates. We all fell a hundred times trying to glide on snow. Few of us managed to stand up and practice it. But at the end of the day, it was a very fun experience, we had blast there.
That evening we came back to the hotel, at night they arranged a bonfire, fire grill, etc. We were sitting outside, surrounding bonfire, singing along. We ate there, we spent some quality time with each other. Hotel manager suggested us to switch off mobile phones so that we can enjoy the experience. At first, we didn’t like the idea, but at the end, we realized it is very important to stay away from our social media addiction, selfie addiction for while and we should spend some quality time with friends and family. It was worth and I suggest everyone should take a break from social media once in a while. (Read- Would you prefer a world with or without Social Media)
Next day we had multiple locations to chase. After breakfast at the hotel, we started our mountain trek. Local guides were with us, we trek for some 10 kilometers. Here in Mumbai (your city) I barely walk, I didn’t know how I trekked for 10 Kilometers. Maybe the beauty of nature, clean air, and the company of my friends pushed me to do that. We met local people too, they were inviting. It was a great experience. I can say that now I respect nature and relationships more. I also learned that it is very important to have a pollution free environment, it changes the quality of life for sure. Later that day, we shopped at local markets, tried local cuisine.
For a couple of next days, we visited the Himalayan national park, Tibetian monastery. That monastery was calm and quiet. It just feels you up with tranquility. We had 6 days and a 7-night trip, but days passed just like that. We all wished we could have planned for 15 days trip.
We had lots of fun, we have some memories and stories which will be with us for a lifetime. Along with the fun, It was a different experience for me. I learned a lot of things from this trip. Now I care for nature, clean air, have a newfound respect for parents and friends. If a single trip can be so much fun and same time enrich me with experiences then I want to go for such a trip more frequently. For the next time, I am planning a winter vacation trip with parents to south India.
