Best Speech on Guru Purnima 2019

Good Morning All. Today we are gathered here to celebrate the auspicious day of Guru Poornima. Here at our school (college) we celebrate our gurus each year. Today we have our dear teachers, chief guests on the podium and all of them are gurus in their own ways. Let me start my speech by conveying my respect and gratitude to them.

On the eve of Guru Purnima, I am standing here on this stage to deliver a speech in front of you. Some of you might know that I am a shy, introvert person. Then, where this confidence came from? I am standing here all because of my teachers, the real Gurus in my life. They taught me life lessons, not just textbooks.

They made me believe in myself and suggested to keep moving forward no matter what. They said, always push yourself because no one is going to do it for you. Gurus are the one who shows you the direction towards your goal; they are the guide to a beautiful journey of yours. A Guru can be anyone, a teacher, parents, a friend, neighbors or a stranger nearby who is helping you in some or the other way. Even a book, a piece of paper, an experience or a random act of kindness can also be your Guru.

Before moving forward, let me just brief you about the Guru Purnima and tell you why we celebrate it? Just as we celebrate Father’s Day and Mother’s Day, Guru Purnima is Guru’s Day. It’s a day to show gratitude towards your Gurus. In ancient times, on this day people use to worship Bhagavan Vyasa who wrote the Vedas.

It is the festival celebrated across India to pay respect to our Gurus. This festival comes in the Hindu month of Ashadh in between the month of June and July on the full moon day. It is celebrated across the country by the people, performing Poojas and events.

In schools, students come together and host programs, and greet their teachers with the flowers, greeting cards and seek their blessings. Even alumni gather together to meet their Gurus and arrange events for them.

Moving forward, let me tell you. Gurus or the teachers are the main pillars of our success. They should be respected and they deserve it because they care for your future, they mold you in different ways, they show you a path to success. And I am proud that our country has preserved this culture of student-teacher or Guru-disciple relationship very well. I also find myself lucky to have such a great bunch of teachers in our school (college).

On that note allow me to end my speech with a small Sanskrit shloka.

गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णु र्गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः, गुरु साक्षात परब्रह्मा तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः

Which means Guru is the Creator, Guru is the Preserver, Gurudeva is Destroyer, Guru is the absolute, Lord himself, Salutations to that Sri Guru.

Thank You!! And wish you all a Happy Guru Purnima.

A Short Essay on Guru Purnima for Students

Introduction

When one hears a word “Guru”, it is generally implied a mystic, saint or a teacher. In short, a human. But, in today’s digital world why we should restrict knowledge from human or Enlightened one only. A guru is one who guides you, helps you find yourself. A guru is one who keeps you going on the path of success/freedom. If one finds such a guru in their teachers, parent, friends then he/she should try to learn life lessons from them.

21st Century Gurus

In today’s digital world there are more than one ways to find the information. And knowledge is derived from information. And if knowledge is what gurus give then today’s technology can be called as a Guru. Maybe in the old days, Guru-disciple was the only effective way to seek knowledge. As time changed school, colleges become the place to go for knowledge.

But today, with advents of internet and smartphones knowledge is at our fingertips. One doesn’t need to find a person to seek for knowledge. In that context, we can call the Internet or a smartphone a Guru. On the contrary, though the information is easily available that doesn’t mean everybody can extract knowledge out of it. You need somebody who has seen the world, who knows the things to guide the seeker. But at least we can conclude that technology is able to bridge that big information divide between a seeker and a guru.

Life as a Guru

“Life is the best teacher”. It keeps throwing problems at you and sees how you solve it. From childhood till death life teaches something. But it is up to us to face those problems and learn from them. In that sense, we can call Life as Guru.

Little things as Guru

Not all the times, big things teach you lessons of life. Sometimes simple, little things solve the big mysteries of life. All you need to do is keep your eyes and mind open to receive it. A random act of kindness may change somebody’s life. A little moment, an experience can change the perspective of your life. Allow these small things to be your Guru and they will teach you life all the time.

Conclusion

Everybody should seek a guru in life, they guide us, they enlighten us. But in today’s digital world one should not just wait for messiah when information is available on fingertips. Technology, small, little things can also be a guru and teach life lessons.
