Summers are the days when we feel so irritated, hate traveling, hate going to work, schools, colleges etc in this encroaching heat. We eagerly wait is for the Rainy Season to come. The first rain showers, the smell of mud, people running in search of shade, children’s enjoying. We love this rain scenes very much. This rain washes our all sweats from the uneasy summer heat. But what if the same rainwater becomes acid? Sound horrific? Well, it is the reality, thanks to rising pollution, the dangers of acid rains are introduced.

Many of us believe that the rain is distilled and pure and brings in relief but it is not this rain includes all the pollutants and the dirt. The pollution from vehicle, Industries goes up into the air and when the first run showers it brings all those hazardous chemicals down back to the ground which affects us in various ways.

This rain is called Acid Rain, as this rain falls on trees, it makes them loose leaves and also stops their growth. Thus affecting the natural habitats. This acid rain also affects the building and monuments like Taj Mahal etc which is made up of white limestone turning into black. Acid rain also has an indirect effect on our health too.

As it is said Prevention is better than cure, we should prevent this harmful effects on us before it gets worse. Water pipelines should be coated appropriately so that this acidic rain does not enter this pipes. Do the liming of lakes and soils so that this acid does not get mixed with it. Restore damaged environment, monuments, buildings etc. Use alternative energy sources like Natural gas, Fossil fuels. Use public transport whenever possible, use energy efficient machines or appliances.

To conclude, Acid rain is an important issue that has an adverse effect on us directly or indirectly. The prevention of this should be started from the individual itself.
